Harding University announced Bruce McLarty will take over as its new president in June.

McLarty, 55, serves as the university's vice president for spiritual life and editor of the institution's magazine "Abundant Life."

Before joining the administration staff in 2005, McLarty was a minister in Arkansas, Mississippi, and Tennessee, according to a university news release.

The Christian University, located in Searcy, spent nine months searching for a new president after its current president, David Burks announced last year he was retiring.

Burks will become chancellor in June when McLarty takes over.
