The Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock is getting some help with improvements to the area.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded the cemetery two grants totaling over $1.1 million.

Governor Beebe was there for the presentation of the check, and acknowledged what this means for our fallen heroes.

"And so what we do here today is continue the expansion and the maintenance and upkeep and restoration of the final resting places of so many people who sacrifice for our freedom. It is actually the deed that we honor," Governor Beebe said.

The funds will go towards improvements on the grounds, including work on nearly 3,000 headstones and around 279,000 square feet of turf.
