Little Rock School Board President Dianne Curry has issued the following statement regarding the death of Michael "Pete" Peterson:

"I was deeply saddened at the sudden death of my colleague and my friend, Michael Pete Peterson. His was a life and career of service above self and building a better future through our children -- first as a school teacher and school administrator, and finally in how he competed for, won, and briefly served on the Little Rock School Board. His entire life was one with great commitment and devotion. His tough, independent spirit will be an inspiration to those of us, in elective office of all types, still doing the people's business. I'm extremely grateful for the time that I was given with him and he will be severely missed by all who knew and loved him.My prayers and condolences go out to his daughter, Brandy, and the rest of his family and his close friends at this very difficult time."

Peterson worked for the Little Rock School District for 38 years.

He was 63 years old.
