It seems every year at Halloween we talk about keeping young trick or treaters safe but here are some tips you may not have thought about:
- First, keep an eye out for those jack o lanterns. While they do a great job of lighting up the next, they can turn quite dangerous if a child's costume gets too close.
- A feather boa can go up in flames within seconds. Federal law states that all Halloween costumes sold in the US must be flame resistant, but that doesn't mean they can't catch fire.
- The experts recommend costumes that fit well, without billowy sleeves. Bad falls are a big reason kids end up in the hospital on Halloween. It's important to make sure kids are not tripping over the bottom half of their costume and make sure they have shoes they can run in.
- Glow sticks and reflective tape on costumes can also help cars see little trick-or-treaters after dark.
