Web Extra: Medical Marijuana Law Language, Arkansas vs. Colorado

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: November 1, 2012
Colorado is one of 17 states that already allows the sale of marijuana for medical purposes.

Here in Arkansas, the practice is proposed in an initiative on the November ballot.

Here's a comparative study of the issue in both states:

Colorado dispensaries are for-profit and regulated by the Department of Revenue.
Arkansas dispensaries would be non-profit and both the patients and dispensaries are regulated by the Department of Health.

Colorado allows a patient to possess two ounces of marijuana at any time.
Arkansas would allow a patient to possess two-and-a-half ounces of marijuana at any time.

Colorado has no limits on dispensaries.
Arkansas would have a limit on dispensaries (currently 30).

In Colorado, there are no restrictions to where you can grow marijuana.
In Arkansas, you would have to be five miles from a dispensary to grow marijuana.

I watched the spot this morning With David Couch and Jerry Cox. The first thing Cox said was a lie. The law clearly states you must renew every year. I find it very disturbing a so called man of God has the gall to get on state news and out right lie. I have yet to hear one truth about Issue 5 coming from him or anyone in his group. Obviously neither he, or anyone connected with his organization has even read the law. Cox is only looking for his day in the spotlight for personal gain.

Of course the police are against it. There goes their overtime and extra pay and training. It's easier to bust a kid smoking a joint then to go after the real bad guys. Thats easy duty and the overtime pay helps. I suffer from 3 herniated discs & a deteriorating left hip joint. Ther ir no cure as I have air bubles in my bones and Ithat bars one from any surgical option. I smoke marijuana because sometimes the pain is so bad I just want to go to sleep. My pain goes away better than any medication the VA gives me.The politicians against don't want to lose their fine & ticket revenues. For the unenlightened polititions change is to be feared and to change legality means alot more
