A Russellville Police Officer who shot a man while on duty has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

According to the Russellville Police Department, prosecutor David Gibbons has cleared officer Aaron Taylor for a shooting that occurred on Oct. 5.

When officers responded to a call of a suicidal person, Arkansas State Police say 54-year-old Walter Hirsch exited the home and had a gun, which he aimed at officers and other bystanders. That's when Officer Taylor shot him.

The prosecutor's report reads, "the use of deadly force under the circumstances outlined in your report was not only justified but required."
