Ghosting
This activity can begin any time in October but the first or second week of the month is the best, allowing sufficient time for the entire neighborhood to be "ghosted."
Typically, you "ghost" two people or families. You can do this with the following items:
- Two Halloween goodie bags filled with treats.
- Two pictures of a ghost
- Two letters stating that "you've been ghosted" with simple how-to instructions to carry on the tradition.
After you have assembled your (two, separate) treat bags, ghosts, and
letters, you should deliver them after dark to your target families by dropping
one on each porch, ringing the doorbell, and running. You should remain
anonymous, so don't get caught. Children should be accompanied by an adult.
You can compose your own letter, along with quick instructions, or add an
elaborate Halloween poem. The instructions should be clear.
Two more families will need to be ghosted within two days in the same
manner in which you've been ghosted.
You need to include a print of a ghost in your packages (click here to download a printable Ghost). The recipients should be instructed to pin these ghosts on their door as a signal that they have already been ghosted.
You've Been Ghosted!
To leave you goodies I see you have found.
If you do not wish a curse to fall
Continue this greeting, this ghostly call.
This will keep ghosts from visiting again
Be sure to participate, if you don't it's a shame...
Don't let them see you, be sneaky, no doubt.
Check back to be sure that they put their ghost out.
Leave treats at homes where no ghost has passed!
Deliver after dark, when there's barely a light...
Ring a doorbell and run, then stay out of sight!!!
Don't worry, be happy, you'll need no good reason.
Be scary, have fun and try not to be seen
And share in the spirit of this
