A state social worker is claiming to be attacked on the job.

Russellville Police say they were called to check on a child at home on 12th street over the weekend, where they searched the home of Mary Walker and found a marijuana pipe.

When a Department of Human Services worker arrived, police say Walker attacked her and attempted to gouge out her eyes, but the worker was wearing glasses.

A spokesperson says assaults are just the reality of working in what can often be volatile environments:

"We just try to reinforce training. We do it every year so they are familiar with techniques to protect themselves."

DHS workers are not allowed to carry weapons of any kind.

Walker is being charged with battery and resisting arrest.
