The City of Conway honored college athletics today.

The mayor declared Oct.10 "Collegiate Sports Awareness Day" in an effort to bring awareness to the impact they have on the city.

The "I'm a Fan" initiative will raise money by selling t-shirts featuring mascots from all three colleges in the town.

"I'm a Fan" will also partner with the institutions to make sure the community is aware of all upcoming games.

City leaders say this economic impact is something fairly new to the community.

"If we go back 15 years, all of these programs have come a very long way in a short amount of time and i think it's something we can all be very proud of - that those opportunities are here for young people and it will help draw them to our community."

Between UCA, Hendrix College and Central Baptist College, there are 842 student athletes and 46 teams competing in 14 sports in the City of Conway.
