"The Diamond Hunter" Shares Secrets in Hot Springs Friday

"The Diamond Hunter" shares some of his secrets in Hot Springs on Friday.

Glenn Worthington of Murfreesboro has earned that title from years of digging for sparklers in Arkansas.

He's found hundreds of them at Crater of Diamonds State Park in his home town, and you can see many of them - including his greatest find in more than 30 years of mining - at Lauray's The Diamond Center during Gallery Walk.

"We are very excited to have Glenn share his collection in our store," says Lauray's owner Mark Fleischner, "People who know diamonds will be especially impressed with the 2-plus carat flawless uncut Arkansas yellow diamond he discovered."

One of the items on display is a golden yellow diamond found by Worthington in 2009 at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro. It is the best of the 200 he has found since 1978.

Since the Crater became a state park 40 years ago more than 30,000 diamond finds have been registered. Among those only 45 have been yellow diamonds of 2 carats or more. Many of them were of the less desirable pale yellow color or they had flaws, cracks and inclusions in them.

Worthington's stone has been graded "internally flawless."

"Yellow diamonds are enormously popular right now and its remarkable that some of the most beautiful in the world have been found right here in Arkansas," Fleischner says.

Dozens of cut and uncut Arkansas diamonds will also be on display, many of them available for purchase.

Genuine diamonds from Arkansas are very rare. An average of only 745 are found each year and most of those are kept by the discoverers. Lauray's jewelry designers will be available to suggest how these or any other stones from their large selection may be arranged into custom-made settings.

Worthington, who has been featured in National Geographic magazine has produced two books and an instructional video on hunting diamonds in Arkansas and will have copies available at Lauray's.
