Free Whooping Cough, Flu Shots for Some Uninsured Child Care Workers in Arkansas

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: October 3, 2012
Free vaccinations for whooping cough and the flu are being made available for a specific group of uninsured child care workers in Arkansas.

Uninsured child care workers at Better Beginnings facilities across the state are eligible to get the free shots, thanks to the partnership of two state agencies.

The Arkansas Pharmacists Association (APA) and Better Beginnings, a program of the Arkansas Department of Human Services, Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education, are joining forces for the project.

The APA, which received a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and the Arkansas Department of Health to pursue this initiative, will work with local pharmacists throughout the state to schedule and administer the immunizations.

APA can give 5,000 immunizations (2,500 each of TBAP and influenza vaccines) in this statewide program.

Directors of Better Beginnings centers can request the immunizations at their location by contacting Scott Pace, APA's associate executive vice president, at (501) 372-5250 or via e-mail to scott@arpharmacists.org.
