North Little Rock's Laman Library System has made a major purchase as part of its expansion plans.

Laman has bought the Post Office Building at 420 Main Street for $775,000.

"We are very excited for this opportunity to improve and expand our services to the people of Central Arkansas," said Jeff Baskin, Executive Director of the William F. Laman Public Library System.

The next step will be to renovate the entire building, which will take place during 2013 at a cost of 2.8-million dollars.

When it reopens in early 2014, the building will replace the current Argenta Branch at 506 Main Street in downtown North Little Rock.

The renovated building will have 16,719 square feet with a long list of amenities that include: a computer lab, reading room, cafe, exhibit hall, four meeting rooms, a 140-seat auditorium, and more than 12-thousand books.

The Laman Library System was founded in 1946. Its main library is at 2801 Orange Street in North Little Rock.
