A plastics plant was still burning Sunday night after a fire broke out the night prior. Gone with it: the jobs of dozens of people in one St. Francis County town.
Multiple fire departments were called to the K-Tops Plastics Manufacturing plant on Highway 1 North in Colt at about 8 Saturday night.
KARK received video of the fire from one of the firefighters that worked it. Bright orange flames leaped high into the sky, and thick black smoke plumes rose into the air.
Firefighters say the plastics burning inside put off a very black smoke -- something they don't see very often. Air monitors are now set up in Colt, though right now they don't believe the burnt plastic will be harmful.
It's unclear how many people worked at the plant, but KARK was told it's the largest employer in town.
Firefighters say the building was a total loss. The cause is still under investigation.
