The Arkansas State Police, along with the State Highway & Transportation Department continued to work with recovery crews along a two-and-a-half mile stretch of the freeway at mid-afternoon on Tuesday.
Overnight, a commercial truck and trailer headed west crashed through the guard rail at the 131.5 mile marker, coming to rest in Lake Conway.
Throughout this afternoon, westbound traffic will be routed into a single lane on I-40 while work continues to remove the wreckage.
At noon today, State Troopers reported traffic backed-up for about five miles west of the crash scene.
State Troopers are discouraging trucks with wide loads from traveling through the area and other motorists may want to consider choosing an alternate route.
Work is expected to continue into the early rush hour period.
The truck driver, Timothy Ward, 78, of Florence, Alabama was treated for minor injuries.
