Despite Saturday's loss to Rutgers (4-0), Smith said team morale was high. Smith said players were saying the right things and staying positive moving forward is a must.
Smith noted that the team has struggled on defense in their first four games. He attributed those issues to losses in the secondary and moving players around.
Looking towards this week, Smith said they're focusing on Texas A&M's wide receivers and defense. The Aggies are coming off a 70-14 victory over the South Carolina State Saturday.
Coach Smith also noted Tevin Mitchell, who was injured against ULM, is progressing well but his return to the field is unknown.
During his address to the crowd, Smith accidentally called UA the best program in the state of Alabama. As you can imagine, the crowd reacted with some jeers. He also said he feels the fans had expectations that were too high for this season.
