Elderly Man Killed, 13-Year-Old Injured in Conway Co. Crash

A man was killed and three people were injured in an accident in Conway County Thursday evening.

According to the Arkansas State Police, 80-year-old Calvin Elbert Cates died after veering off of State Highway 9, then over-correcting and driving into oncoming traffic just after 5:30 p.m.

The accident occurred approximately two miles north of Center Ridge.

Cates' 1999 Lincoln Town Car struck the front of a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer carrying 56-year-old Calvin, 48-year-old Naomi and 13-year-old Samuel Forrester, who were all hospitalized. All three were wearing their seat belts.

The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

Mr. Cates was taken to Neal and Sons Funeral Home.

He was not wearing a seat belt.
