People in Texarkana will have a big place to cool off next year.

Ground has been broken for the privately funded Holiday Springs Fun Park.

Local officials got together at the site along Interstate 30 at the Arkansas-Texas border on Wednesday.

The project is expected to draw local crowds as well as regional tourists, and will feature a wave pool, five rides and ten slides.

The park is expected to be open by Memorial Day of next year.
