National Weather Service in North Little Rock Holds Open House Next Month

Central Arkansans interested in learning more about the National Weather Service (NWS) will get the chance next month.

The NWS forecast office in North Little Rock will hold an open house for the public from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on October 20th.

Located at the North Little Rock Airport, 8400 Remount Road, this will be the office's first open house in more than 20 years. 

Activities include office tours every 30 minutes (beginning at the top of the hour and on the half-hour), during which visitors will be able to interact with the National Weather Service forecasters. 

There will also be a special weather balloon launch at 12:30 p.m.

NWS partners will also be on-site to demonstrate and explain the important services they provide.

They include:

• Arkansas-Red Basin River Forecast Center
• Arkansas Department of Emergency Management
• Arkansas Forestry Commission
• State Climatologist
• North Little Rock Fire Department
• Arkansas SKYWARN

By working hand-in-hand with its partners and the public, the NWS hopes to improve preparedness, communications and public responses before, during and after severe weather events.

The NWS is the primary source of weather data, forecasts and warnings for the United States and its territories. It operates the most advanced weather and flood warning and forecast system in the world, helping to protect lives and property and enhance the national economy.
