KARK 4 Reporter Adam Rodriguez caught up with the governor at an event in Little Rock this morning.
Here are his tweets about what Gov. Beebe had to say:
Gov. Beebe tells KARK he doesn't have any authority over Treas. Shoffner, but audit allegations don't look good.
Gov Beebe tells KARK he's glad we asked about Shoffner, because he's been getting a lot of calls, says he wants to learn more.
Gov. Beebe says he's not calling on Shoffner to resign, is eager to see the results of 2nd treasury audit.
The governor also commented on the situation with Bill Walker, the former state senator who heads the Department of Career Education. He's been in the news lately for hiring an unqualified person to be a translator for the deaf.
Gov. Beebe says the hire was done incorrectly, but that Walker "is taking care of it." Beebe says he feels Walker is addressing the issue and the situation doesn't require the governor's correction or intervention.
Shoffner is a state constitutional officer- elected by Arkansas voters. Walker is appointed by the governor.
