The City of Conway is being sued by members of its own Police and Fire Departments.

The suit was filed Tuesday by a police officer and firefighter.

The filing alleges a sales tax passed in 2001 was intended to be used exclusively for salary increases, but the employees have not been paid step increases as required, and the funds were instead used on city construction projects and for other purposes.

The lawsuit seeks class action status, saying the plaintiffs should include all employees who have not received salary increases, as well as taxpayers.

It is shameful that the mayor would take money from the employees to fund operating costs of the parks that he has created.
