October is shaping up to be a big month for Oaklawn Racing & Gaming in Hot Springs.

Oaklawn officials say it's a good thing there are 31 days in October because there's a full slate of promotions and events planned from start to finish. Highlighting the month will be Hot Spring's largest Oktoberfest celebration, a Lonestar concert and a Halloween costume contest.

Oktoberfest will be celebrated Oaklawn style Sunday, October 7. Guests can enjoy a favorite fall tradition from 5 - 10 p.m. while enjoying a $6.99 German buffet, $1 Samuel Adams Octoberfest, live entertainment from the Itinerant Locals and cash drawings.

Oaklawn's popular Finish Line Theater Concert Series comes to a close Oct. 25 with a performance by the award-winning country group Lonestar. Now back with lead singer Richie McDonald, the band will hit the stage at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Monday, Oct. 15 and will be $29.95 or $19.95.

This year marks Lonestar's 20th Anniversary and they are recording a new album to celebrate. The Texas-bred band, known for merging their country roots with strong melodies and rich vocals, has combined sales in excess of 10 million album units. Lonestar has achieved 10 number one country hits including "No News," "Come Crying to Me" and "Amazed." The band's awards include a 1999 ACM Single of The Year and Song of the Year for "Amazed" and the 2001 CMA Vocal Group of the Year.

While visitors must be 21 to enter the gaming center, all the kids at heart are invited to wear their best Halloween costumes Wednesday, Oct. 31 and can compete for $1,000 in prizes. The person with the best costume will receive $500 and five other people will receive $100. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and judging starts at 8 p.m.

Football fans can watch their favorite games in Pop's Lounge every Monday, Saturday and Sunday all season long, while enjoying great food and drink specials. ESPN Game Plan will be on every Saturday for the best in college football and Sundays will feature NFL Sunday Ticket. Guests can come in on Mondays to play Gridiron Challenge and enjoy free tacos and $1 drafts through halftime of the big game.
