A child's education is a team effort that stretches beyond the book.

Teachers and students are on the team, and so are parents.

Nicole Thomas of Little Rock goes out of her way to see her kids at school.

"I've been up there so much, it's like hey mom! And the staff, of course they all know my name," she says.

The mother of three is also the parent-community liaison at Hall High School. It's her job to get parents in the know when it comes to their student's education.

"My job is to inform the parent of everything that's going on here at school. Most of the time, the messages don't get home via the student. And it's my job to make sure the parent knows," Thomas explains.

Tuesday night, all the high schools in the Little Rock School District are holding open houses to get parents into schools.

National education statistics show student success and enjoyment double when parents get involved.

"I think it needs to be that way, a parent comes to school so much, they automatically say, here comes Johnny's mother. That's how involved the parent needs to be," says Thomas.

Being a part of your child's education is just one way for parents to show they care.
