The HPD shared the news in the following release this morning:
We regret to inform the public that Sergeant David "D.J." Johnson passed away Saturday afternoon after an 18-day battle with the West Nile Virus. Our hearts break for his family and friends. This has been tremendously hard on the family as well as our department, especially those on the night shift that worked so closely with David. Representatives of the department were with David's family in the last hours as we all huddled around in support and celebration of David's wonderful and service filled life.
Chief JR Wilson stated, "David was a giant of a man that touched the lives of so many people. He was a true public servant who cared for the City of Hope, Arkansas and its entire people. David's legacy will live on in our department. He was a special person, a tremendous Sergeant and wonderful friend. "
A celebration commemorating the life of David Johnson is currently scheduled for Saturday 11 AM at First Baptist Church.
