The hearing in a lawsuit to determine if Pine Bluff voters will elect a new mayor in 2012 has been delayed with no formal date set at this time.

Sixth Circuit Judge Jay Moody has been assigned to preside over the case.

Pine Bluff Mayor Carl Redus has filed suit, requesting the mayor's election be delayed until 2014.

Redus' basis for the suit is a 1965 state law that says cities with populations of less than 50,000 should hold mayor's elections in the mid-term between presidential elections, in this case 2014.

The hearing in Moody's court was originally set for next Tuesday, Sept. 18, but according to his office it has been postponed.
