Josh Gerstein is the White House Correspondent for Politico.com.
He focuses largely on national security, and spoke about the issues at the Clinton School of Public Service.
The issue became politicized on Wednesday, with Mitt Romney and President Obama criticizing each other for remarks about the Libyan attacks.
Gerstein says that's not hard to believe, since the election is so close.
"We're getting pretty late in the game," he says. "It's only 57 or so days until election day and there's a lot of reluctance on their art to just let an entire day, an entire news cycle go without them participating in it in some way. "
Gerstein says Governor Romney may have been ready to attack President Obama as early as possible today, since both candidates took time off the campaign trail yesterday on the 9/11 anniversary.
