Solar Panels That Cost Taxpayers $550,000 Now On

By:
Updated: September 14, 2012
Solar panels that cost taxpayers just over half a million dollars and went unplugged for about three years are finally on.

Entergy spokeswoman Julie Munsell confirmed the company turned them on this morning.

The panels are located just outside the state library and Economic Development Commission offices.

A legal tiff between the power company and Arkansas Tech University kept the project in the dark. Entergy provides power to the state library.

The issue triggered a backlash in May from Americans for Prosperity, a conservative hammer group that gets much of its money from the Koch brothers who own Koch Industries, one of the largest privately-owned gas and oil companies in the United States.

The legal battle centered on whether the Arkansas Constitution barred state agencies from signing indemnification agreements with companies. The state Public Service Commission determined it was unconstitutional and the state Court of Appeals later upheld that determination.

Have I missed something? This story doesn't make much sense as written. Who cares about the Koch brothers, what's the story???
