The state Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission has recommended that Circuit Judge Sam Pope be suspended for 30 days without pay and undergo anger management counseling.

The recommendation comes after an April 5 fight Pope had with his estranged wife's boyfriend in the Crossett Walmart store.

The suspension, if approved by the Arkansas Supreme Court, will go into effect on October 1.

According to information in a Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission press release, Pope and his estranged wife's boyfriend Bill Murray, of Crossett, got into a verbal altercation which escalated to a fight captured on the store's surveillance cameras.

Walmart security officers, other employees and store customers broke up the fight.
