Conway Police say the man is believed to be from California.
His name is not yet being released since his next of kin has not yet been found.
There were no apparent signs of what caused his death, police say.
Update (September 8):
The Faulkner County Coroner says he does not suspect foul play after officials discovered a body in Conway Friday.
At this time, Coroner Patrick Moore says the body found on Harkrider near McKinney Tire is that of a black man in his 60's.
There's no easily seen trauma to the body, but it was decomposing. Moore says the body had been there since last Saturday.
The investigation is ongoing.
Original Story (September 7):
A foul odor lead Conway police to a badly decomposed dead body within city limits.
The body was found near a lot next to McKinney Tire on Harkrider Street.
A car with California plates was parked nearby for several days and may belong to the person whose body they found.
"The body looked as if it had been there for nearly a week, but it's been very hot. It was badly decomposed," says Latresha Woodruff with the Conway Police Department.
Police have not identified the body, and the county coroner is working to establish a cause of death, though police didn't notice obvious signs of trauma.
