Texarkana now has some upgrades when it comes to controlling the mosquito population and preventing the spread of West Nile.

This week, public works introduced new mosquito spraying equipment and chemicals to be used three nights a week.

A city spokesperson says the gear brings a much-needed improvement to old equipment crews were using.

More than a dozen West Nile cases have been confirmed in Miller County and neighboring Bowie County combined, including one death of a Texarkana, Texas resident.
