Arkansas Supreme Court Hears Arguments in Casino Gambling Lawsuit

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: September 6, 2012
The Arkansas Supreme Court hears oral arguments this morning in a lawsuit brought by a casino gambling group against the Secretary of State Mark Martin.

The lawsuit was filed last month by Arkansas Hotels and Entertainment, Inc.

The court action followed the decision of Martin's office in July not to accept any additional signatures for the casino group's petition when it failed to provide enough signatures to get its measure on the November ballot.

The proposed amendment would have allowed the company to own and operate one casino gambling establishment in seven Arkansas counties.

Arkansas Hotels and Entertainment, Inc., led by Michael Wasserman, needed to collect a number of signatures that equals at least five-percent of the votes cast in the 2010 Governor's race in 15 different counties.
