PCSSD Receives 100,000 Meals for Hungry Children

Updated: September 5, 2012
The donation is thanks to Feeding Children Everywhere, an Orlando, Florida-based nonprofit organization committed to providing healthy meals to needy children.

On August 27, the group hosted a meal-packing event called Project 3, bringing together more than 20,000 people who worked together to package and distribute 3 million healthy meals for children across the country.

PCSSD was the recipient of 100,000 meals, and the Equity and Pupil Services Department is partnering with the district's Counseling Department to identify the needy students who will receive the meals.

"One in four children across our community is struggling in school for lack of proper nutrition at home." said Dr. Brenda Bowles, Assistant Superintendent for Equity and Pupil Services. "We are thrilled that we have been given this opportunity to help with that. These meals are going to be put in the hands and in the bellies of our neediest students. Any time we get a chance to lift up those students, it's exciting - it's what we got into education to do."

The district's warehouse staff will soon begin delivering the meals to each school, and school guidance counselors will then distribute them to qualified students.
