Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra Unveils New Season

The Bentonville-based Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) has unveiled its new season.

The opening concert next month features master cellist Allison Eldredge and the University of Arkansas' beloved Stephen Gates. The Christmas concert features tenor Steve Amerson, and Broadway sensation Laurie Stephenson Gayle performing traditional Christmas favorites.

First prize winner of the World Piano Competition, Yoonjung Han will join the APO performing Gershwin's famous Rhapsody in Blue in February. The APO also features one of Northwest Arkansas' finest musicians Jonathan Story performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2.

APO 1 - Classic Masters - October 27 - 7:30 pm
Allison Eldredge, Cello

Vivaldi Concerto for Two Cellos in G Minor (w/Stephen Gates, Cello)
Saint Sans Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor
Beethoven Symphony No. 7

The APO welcomes internationally acclaimed cellist Alison Eldredge, who has performed with such orchestras as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Saint Louis Symphony, Montreal Symphony, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony, Berlin Symphony, Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, The Hague Philharmonic, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. APO principal cellist, Stephen Gates, will also be featured in partnership with Ms. Eldredge performing Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Cellos in G minor.  Bringing his depth of interpretation and ability to bring the best out of his musicians, Maestro Byess will end the opening concert with Beethoven's Symphony No. 7.

Don't miss one of Arkansas' greatest collaborative musical holiday celebrations with the APO, "America's Tenor" Steve Amerson and Broadway sensation Laurie Gayle Stephenson.  In addition, the APO welcomes the dynamic McNair Middle School Glee Club, under the direction of Jennie Alves, to the stage.
 
APO 3 - Gershwin and Friends - February 2 - 7:30 pm

GERSHWIN Rhapsody In Blue

Yoonie Han is the first-prize winner of the World Piano Competition, Juilliard's Gina Bachauer International Competition, the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition, the Washington International Piano Competition and the pride of northwest Arkansas' Fulbright Piano Competition. Ms. Han will perform Gershwin's powerful Rhapsody in Blue.  Works written by contemporaries of Gershwin and by composers who were influenced by him will also be performed by the finest orchestral musicians in Northwest Arkansas!

APO 4 - Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2 - April 20 - 7:30 pm

Fayetteville native Jonathan Story, dubbed "Fayetteville's Piano Man" by the Northwest Arkansas Times will perform the lush and romantic Piano Concerto No. 2 by Rachmaninoff.  Providing opportunities for young emerging musicians is a centerpiece to the mission of the APO, subsequently the winner of the 2013 University of Arkansas Concerto/Aria Competition will also be featured as soloist. The members of the APO will perform two thrilling Russian masterpieces in a fitting close to a spectacular program and an exciting season!
