Conway Police Confirm Toddler's Drowning at Apartment Complex

Police in Conway confirm they are investigating a drowning involving a 1-year-old child at an apartment complex.
According to Public Information Office LaTresha Woodruff, police received a call at 11:00 Friday morning about a possible drowning at Westbury Park Apartments.
Woodruff said police learned from a maintenance man that he had seen a child in the pool. A 1-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy were both discovered in the pool. The 3-year-old appeared to be shaken up, but all right. The 1-year-old boy was given CPR, and he was transported to Conway Hospital, where he later died.
Mekayla Mitchell, 26, was tending to the children and is the mother of the 3-year-old who survived. The 1-year-old boy is the woman's boyfriend's child. She told police she fell asleep and the children went outside and got in the pool.
The boy's father reportedly came to the scene, according to Woodruff, but she is unsure if he has been interviewed.
The investigation, according to Woodruff, is continuing with detectives working to determine if negligence was involved.
