In Central Arkansas there's a K9 academy that sends hundreds of dogs through the training to help protect the streets all across America.

The Little Rock K9 Academy trains about 60 dogs a year to eventually work with handlers in different law enforcement agencies all across central Arkansas, the entire state and even the nation.

They train each dog about 2 hours a day, seven days a week. Each dog needs about 109 hours of training. This means the handlers at the academy put in about 6,540 hours of training into K9's that come through the academy every year.

The dogs are trained to sniff out narcotics, track down a suspect and apprehension.

The only time a handler would deploy their K9 partner on a target is if that person has committed a felony, are burglarizing a building, to protect their handler/partner or track a person that has fled the scene of a crime.

KARK 4's Josh Berry got a good idea of how effective the K9 can apprehend a target. Check out the video.
