Governor Beebe Declares State of Emergency Due to Severe Drought

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: August 3, 2012
Governor Beebe today declared a state of emergency in Arkansas to assist with the transport of hay during Arkansas's severe drought.

The declaration is intended to help Arkansas ranchers whose feed supplies are running critically low.

Under the declaration, issuance of special permits to transport round bales of hay on controlled highways will be temporarily authorized, provided the load does not exceed 12 feet in width.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department will maintain jurisdiction in selecting the safest routes for the hauling of hay.

This declaration is in effect for 30 days and maybe extended depending on future conditions.
