North Arkansas Electric Cooperative is experiencing power outages affecting 2,500 members/customers, down from 3,500 around 8:30 Wednesday evening.

Strong winds up to 66 mph in Salem around 6:20 p.m. and winds reaching 70 mph in other service areas are believed to have contributed to the outages.

NAEC says damage is primarily in Fulton and Baxter Counties, with other minor damage in Sharp and Izard Counties.

They expect many customers to be without power into Thursday morning.
