For two days only, families can save money when they buy items such as shoes, backpacks, shirts, ties, and school supplies. Arkansas State Representative Matthew Shepherd was responsible for making this holiday a reality.

"My understanding is that every state on Arkansas's border has some sort of sales tax holiday weekend and so it was very convenient for Arkansans to go outside the state and enjoy those savings and so now we've been able to implement something here to keep those dollars here in the state of Arkansas."

This will be the second year that folks in Arkansas can enjoy no sales tax on clothing items less than $100. Shepherd says the sales tax free weekend benefits retailers and shoppers alike.

"I think it's a win-win on both accounts. I've heard a lot of really positive comments from merchants and retailers who saw their sales boosted during that weekend."

Most importantly, this weekend will help those who need some extra savings in these economically trying times.

"It's obviously geared toward families going back to school, but it benefits everybody."

The sales tax free weekend will begins Saturday morning and ends Sunday night.
