Thanks to a grant from the Arkansas Children's Hospital, Robinson Middle and High School athletes were given a Neuro Cognitive Test today that shows what level their brain is functioning at. This is then used as a comparison if a player suffers a concussion to show how the brain is operating so doctor's can better treat the student athlete's accordingly.
"In the past we have had problems with concussions which is why we want to be proactive this year, to make sure we have great equipment that fits the kids right, but also so that we have the baseline testing and assess concussions in the future and make sure we're treating them correctly," says Athletic Trainer Erin Harmon.
Concussions getting a lot of attention lately as more research links them to future side effects such as depression, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's.
