More Viewers Watching London Olympics

More than 31 million viewers watched the 2012 Olympic Games Monday night, surpassing the total for the first Monday of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing by 1.4 million.

The 31.6 million viewers is the most for the first Monday of any Summer Olympic Games not hosted in the United States in 36 years.

These numbers surpass the first Monday of the 2004 Athens Olympics by 4.5 million viewers.

Through the first Monday of the London Olympics, NBC is averaging 34.8 million viewers, the most of any Summer Olympics in history (since the first televised Olympics in 1960). The 34.8 million tops the 1996 Atlanta Olympics (34.5 million), is 4.3 million more viewers than Beijing (30.5 million) and 10.1 million more than Athens (24.7 million).
