Murder Suspect Pleads Guilty To Avoid Second Trial for Death of Springdale Teen

Updated: July 13, 2012

Erickson Dimas-Martinez pleaded guilty Friday, avoiding a second murder trial, according to Benton County Prosecutor Van Stone.

Dimas-Martinez was originally sentenced to death for the capital murder and aggravated robbery of a Springdale teenager back in 2006. But the conviction was overturned, in part because one juror was tweeting during the trial while another fell asleep.

The second trial was scheduled to start August 27th. Friday's guilty plea means he will not be eligible for the death penalty.
