Searcy Wants Covington Road Route for Bypass

First, the Searcy City Council said it wanted the most northern path for the Highway 36/67 Connector Route.

Now, the council has made that definition even more precise by passing a resolution in support of the Covington Road route.

Mayor David Morris said that because of the closeness in cost and other findings between the three routes that were studied -- Holmes Road, Covington Road, and a third southern path that connects to Holmes Road -- the city wanted to once again reenforce its choice of the path for the route.

The Covington Road option is expected to cost $33.7 million in total, according to estimates from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

Upon the resolution's passing, Morris said the city will mail a certified copy of the resolution to the highway department and the Arkansas Highway Commission.
