Updated: July 11, 2012
Arkansas is ranked last in the nation for bicycle safety and now, the Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas is doing something about it.

The group met tonight in the Capital Hotel ballroom to discuss plans for improvement.

Up for discussion is the Department of Transportation's decision to shut down the River Trail bike path near Cantrell Road for a repaving project.

Tim Mckuin, President of the Bicycle Advocacy of Central Arkansas, says "We've taken a stand asking the Transportation Department to reroute or accommodate River Trail users through the construction site while that's going on. "

Construction is expected to last anywhere from a week to a month.
