Mayor Stewart Nelson announced during Monday night's monthly city council meeting that the interior wall of the former Bobbye's Wedding Creations building is falling down and will need to be removed. The mayor said the city's street department should be able to take down the wall, but he noted one problem is that the wall behind it on the building owned by Kay Osborne is not strong and something will need to be done to protect it.
"I'm afraid she may be forced to come back in and put some kind of concrete or stucco over the wall to protect her wall and seal it," the mayor said.
In the meantime, the mayor encourages people to stay away from the wall until it has been removed and the wall on the Osborne building is deemed safe.
The plan was for the city to paint the wall on the Bobbye's building until engineers determined it needs to come down for safety precautions.
That was part of a planned project to improve the appearance of the downtown area that also includes the painting of the caboose next to the depot museum. The mayor said the city does have someone lined up for that part of the project.
