Despite the rain football players practiced at War Memorial Stadium for this Friday's 7-on-7 tournament in honor of Garrett Uekman.

The 19-year-old's life was cut short last November, his friends started a foundation to keep his memory alive.

The dozens of eager young football players ran through drills on the wet field.

"We wanted a way to remember him by and the 7-on-7 tournament just felt natural he loved football so much," said Chase Miller.

Miller played football his whole life and for much of it, his best friend, Garrett Uekman, was alongside him on the field.

But that came to a devastating halt last November when Uekman was found dead inside his dorm on the University of Arkansas' campus in Fayetteville.

He died as a result of an undiagnosed heart condition.

"This is our way of keeping his legacy alive," said Miller.

Uekman's friends gathered with his family to create the foundation organizing this weekend's tournament.

"Friday's the big day!" said Meagan Uekman.

The field they're playing on significant two-fold, Garrett not only grew-up playing on the field, it was where he played his last game.

"This is a big place for him," said Uekman, "And all of us...So it's really cool. "

Money raised will go towards heart health awareness, as well as scholarships.

"Lots of people have contributed and it's awesome," said Miller.

They're hoping this weekend's weather cooperates.

There's also still time to sign-up for this weekend's tournament.

You can do so by going to the foundation's website here: Garrett Uekman Foundation
