An Arkansas father who was on vacation in the Florida Keys has died while snorkeling with his son.

According to WFOR-TV in Miami, James Faulkner, 55, of Little Rock and his 16-year-old son were traveling with a Boy Scout group visiting the Islamorada Boy Scout Sea Base.

The father and son were part of a group that went out snorkeling from the Sea Base Monday on board two sailboats.

The group stopped at Hens and Chickens reef off Plantation Key to snorkel shortly after one o'clock in the afternoon. A short time later, Faulkner's son noticed his father was floating unresponsive on the surface and yelled for help.

Some people on a private vessel in the area rushed in and pulled Faulkner from the water then notified the U.S. Coast Guard.

Faulkner was taken to Mariner's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be done to determine the cause of his death.
