As temperatures rise, and mosquitoes come out to feast--the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services is conducting their 2007 West Nile Virus surveillance program.
In 2006, Arkansas had 29 confirmed human cases of the disease resulting in four deaths.
But there haven't been any reports of human West Nile in Arkansas this year.
The surveillance program includes crows, blue-jays, robins, hawks and owls.
DHHS is asking Arkansans to bring in these types of dead birds.
But there are precautionary steps you should take.
Avoid submitting decomposed birds for testing.
Avoid bare-hand contact when handling dead birds.
Use rubber gloves when handling dead birds.
