The Murray Hydroelectric Plant at 4000 Cooks Landing Road in North Little Rock is next to Murray Lock and Dam No. 7.
Cooks Landing Road, at the point where it crosses the Hydro plant, will be closed during much of the maintenance period and will not be accessible to vehicle or foot traffic.
The maintenance will not affect energy delivered to customers in North Little Rock and Sherwood.
The road across the dam will be closed for at least three full weeks. Maintenance engineers plan to complete the first phase of the project by the end of July but caution that it could take longer. Other maintenance steps will force the City to close the road for shorter periods throughout the summer.
"The North Little Rock Electric Department will be replacing the turbine shaft seal system of unit 2," said Mike Russ, general manager of the North Little Rock Electric Department. "We want people who visit this area to know that Cooks Landing Road, which spans across the plant and connects to a small jetty and parking lot then into the Arkansas River, will be closed for their safety. Signs will be posted throughout the area, and we will frequently update the public on our progress."
