The future of the Highway 36/67 Connector Route project is safe for now, but that could change after the upcoming legislative session.

Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department spokesperson Randy Ort said the state highway commission decided at its most recent meeting that there would not be any changes made to the 2013-16 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan.

The plan lists all projects that the highway department plans to accomplish during the three years listed, including the Searcy project.

However, the commission could be forced to alter the STIP to meet the new financial needs of the trucker tax exemption. The exemption went into affect on Sunday.
