Federal Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) agents will likely take over the investigation of a suspected pipe bomb discovered in the Plainview community this past weekend.

"Generally, this kind of thing is handled on the federal level," said Jeremy Clark, White County chief deputy. "This is a very serious offense."

Deputies were called to a structure fire at 113 Rolling Hills Road at around 10 p.m. Saturday after North White County firefighters discovered what appeared to be a pipe bomb on the front porch of the burning home.

Deputies contacted bomb technicians from the Arkansas State Police and Conway Fire Department and the item was detonated safely, according to Cpl. Steve Hernandez with the sheriff's office.
