Updated: July 2, 2012

With the state of Arkansas under sever drought conditions, Benton Fire Chief Bill Ford and Mayor David Mattingly have decided to suspend the Benton Freedom Fest Fireworks Display.

Unless there is a significant amount of rain, Ford says that the fireworks show will not happen.

However, the Benton Freedom Festival will continue and all are encouraged to attend.

70 of 75 counties in Arkansas are under burn bans. The Arkansas Forestry Commission discourages any outdoor burning, including the use of fireworks.
